It is a commitment that is woven into your daily life, from Sustainability Classes to your meals. To join our sustainable community, please contact us today at 928-632-7601 or email admissions@ormeshool.org. 6 7 Horsemanship Program is creating greater student interest while seeking to establish clear safety standards and a realistic competitive program. Horsemanship students are once again competing under the new leadership and coordinating with Orme Ranch efforts to a greater degree. Almost a dozen students volunteered for the May round-up. The Director of Horsemanship and I saddled up for the Vaqueros Ride; and the Assistant Director of Horsemanship, the Associate Director of Advancement, a Board member and our CFO played an active role in Champagne & Sagebrush. Community service, whether it is through the efforts of the International Club’s annual Heifer Project, our expanding association with Big Brother Big Sisters, or this year’s inaugural Senior Caravan Service Trip to Mexico, provides our students with ways to give back. Playoff berths for basketball and soccer teams, championship athletes in swimming, track, wrestling and tennis, and a renewed commitment to football, softball, volleyball, drama and horsemanship describe the turnaround taking place in our after school sports and activity programs. Faculty committed to the values of team play, sportsmanship and excellence are essential to these achievements and efforts. The Farm to Table initiative, supported by a grant that led to the creation of the Burpee Garden, Orchard and Vineyard, will receive additional financial support for food processing and renovations in Founders Hall thanks to a generous alumnus – Craig Mynard, Class of 1993, in honor of his mother Dr. Gail K. Mynard. Because of her love of cooking, the gift will finance the conversion of Country Club into a Culinary Arts classroom. The gift also includes storage space for freshly harvested Burpee fruits and vegetables, food processing equipment, an herb garden, and fan and the screening in of an expanded dining area of Founders. The sustainability vision is expanding daily, and we just received a gift from Charlie Wilcox to restore the Greenhouse in the Mosher Science Building. We hope to share our roadmap and progress with other schools and students this fall in the second Orme Sustainably Institute. Creating a growing and uniquely diverse student body (consisting primarily of Arizonians, but including students from 17 countries and 11 states), campus restoration and beautification projects, curricular and co-curricular expansion, an increasingly enthusiastic faculty, and emerging financial stability could not be achieved without the incredible generosity of alums, campers and friends supporting the regenerative process going on at Orme today. THANK YOU! Bruce Sanborn Head of School It’s been a great year at The Orme School! We’ve successfully continued our revitalization efforts. Personally, I am so pleased with the positive growth and improvements seen over the past year. And, I have full confidence that there will be more of the same in the coming years. I stated last year that, “The Orme School’s commitment to the future is strong.” I repeat that statement again this year. The reinstated programs and activities such as Caravan and Horsemanship continue to thrive. The Sustainability Program is a success, providing home grown food from the Burpee Garden. The administration works hard to fill the student body with mission appropriate students. The quality faculty and staff do an excellent job in educating and nurturing the students. The Orme School is exceptional! As we launch the 2017 Annual Fund, please join me in your continued support and efforts to make it even better.
