Examples: Lunch in the Florida Keys (January of 2015 and 2016) with Anne Thompson Hilbert. Still a Texas resident – most of the year - Anne is involved in a whole range of civic and community activities, very much enjoys her grandchildren, and has recently taken interesting trips to Rwanda and Cuba. I am enclosing a photo of Anne I snapped with my phone during lunch last winter (Orme yearbook on the table between us). I’ve enjoyed fun email exchanges with Linda Tolman Martell, living in Ojai (CA) who retains her great sense of humor despite some health setbacks (cancer, mastectomy, chemo). She, too, enjoys her grandchildren (and great grandchildren!). Julie Johnson Jerome and Phyllis Harris Templeton have stayed in touch, happily. Read their updates elsewhere in this column. Co-Class Rep Cindy Harwood and I have stayed connected all these years. I have visited one another with some regularity, and look forward to many more years of our long friendship begun when we were roommates at Orme. My life since retirement has been relatively simple, but somehow very full. Winters in our home in Borrego Springs, CA, remainder of the year in Seattle where I stay busy with way too many activities, and where our youngest son was married last summer. Recent trips include hiking in northern Greece, hiking and kayaking in Croatia with son # 2 and then-fiance, and hiking the Cornwall Coast last May with eldest son, then a few days in London and a stopover on the east coast to attend my 50th reunion at Vassar. Our entire family is planning a hiking trip in northern Scotland in July/August of 2016 to commemorate George’s and my 50th anniversary. For sure, time flies when you’re having fun! Julie Johnson Jerome - We’re leaving May 13 for Europe—a Viking cruise along the Elbe River, ending in Prague, where we will spend a few extra days. The cruise will take us through Wittenberg (Martin Luther), Dresden (porcelain factory), and the usual collection of what a previous tour guide called the Three C’s (Castles, Churches and Cathedrals). I’m excited that our grandchildren will be joining us this summer—for what sound like great camps. Just like their Mom, back in the day. Several non-profits keep me hopping, and I’m also doing campaign work for a local (non-partisan) politician (or Public Servant, as he likes to be called.) Isn’t 73 too old to be so busy? I’ll miss the 55th reunion. My best to all. Phyllis Middleton - I am in the process of selling my house and am moving to Mexico. AJIJIC, above Guadalajara! Have to have adventures while we are still walking and talking. I have 3 absolutely beautiful grand daughters, 17, 12, 11. Wish I knew how to send pictures. Look forward to next reunion...Maybe we should make it a little sooner!!!! 1969 Whit Knight - I’ve been living in Prescott since April 20, 2010. I’d moved from Naugatuck, Connecticut, where I’d lived since late August of 2005; and before that, Prescott (July 2004-January 2005) and Orme (January-July 2005); and before that, Ridgefield, Connecticut (1990-2004)... I was privileged to be the Orme Reunion Photographer in 2000; 2009 (my 40th Graduation Anniversary), when I reunited with classmates Janet (and briefly, Fred) Markham, Nance McManus, Marian (Huntington) Craver, Hank Sousa, Bill Dean and John Kramer; and in 2012, when I also took photos at Graduation. I did attend Reunions 2013 and 14; skipped last year; but have signed on for this year’s Reunion. Shortly after moving here to Prescott, I became a volunteer at the Sharlot Hall Museum. From May 2010 until this past March, I led tour groups; “hosted” three of the museum’s historic buildings (not all at once); served at various museum fairs and festivals; and wrote several short travel/volunteer field trip reports for the museum’s Volunteer Newsletter. On March 19th of this year, my mother, Alice V. Knight, passed away in her sleep. She was 94. At this juncture in my life, I’m looking forward to doing some travelling; signing up for a correspondence course in illustration (graphics) and story-telling; and finding a literary agent to help me “birth” a novel that’s been a work-in-progress for about thirty years...Meanwhile, I read whatever I can get my hands on; paint plastic miniature figurines (“toy soldiers”) for fun and relaxation; and watch old TV shows and movies on DVD. On the spiritual side, I continue to study and research the Bible, which I’ve been doing for more than forty years...that’s what really keeps me going through this life. At the end of this month, I’ll be donating a slew of books to the Orme Library that became a dust-collecting part of my collection. Last but not least, earlier this year, I volunteered to become the Class Correspondent for my old grade school class from the Potomac School. I don’t know if the position corresponds to Class Rep, but it’s a privilege. Funny thing, had I stayed at that school, I would have graduated from the 9th Grade in 1966... Hank Sousa - Recently moved from Grass Valley, CA to Palo Alto, CA, my hometown. Remodeled an old rental cottage I’ve owned for a while and my wife, Andie, and I are busy taking long walks, attending Stanford sporting events and reacquainting ourselves with the SF Bay Area. I’ve been retired for several years and my wife is winding down her CPA career. Looking forward to my 50th reunion, in 2019, as I’ve enjoyed the others every five years. Wilhelmina Judd Rippetoe - Thought I’d send you a quick pic of me working with Cosmos, a pony I help care for walk, trot, and groom, clean his hooves and hoof care. I also work out at the ranch and feed 20 horses. I chop up fresh organic dandelion greens with several fresh organic apples in a big bowl and carrots and share them with the horses. It’s hard work cleanIng out horse stalls of rocks and cleaning and scrubbing their buckets with bleach. Sometimes I’m raking manure. Each day is different but I’m working, none the less. I go out there with my friend Becky. Her boyfriend Franklin owns many of the horses. One of my favorites I feed and care for when I’m there is an Appoloosa named Abbie (short for the Absoruka Mountain Range in Wyoming & Montana). He was on Gunsmoke, one of my favorite TV series. I’ve grown to know these 20 horses and miss them if I can’t get out there during the week to love and give them treats or hay. I feel happy when I’m with the horses and some dogs out there as well. Looking forward to attending Orme Reunion June 2017! Spoiling my son right now with his victories from Notre Dame. Good going Will !!!! I still workout 2 X a week and walk miles during the week and do stretching and some yoga every day. I love life and have enjoyed walks with my son (when we can). For my birthday In June, we’ll be walking the beach. That’s my favorite present. Life is good! My Best 1981 Randy Neiderman - I have recently published a book titled-Be Your Spirit: A guide to health and happiness based on the Yoga Sutras.I wrote this book during the Great Recession in the shadow of my unemployment and the death of my parents. At that time I turned to the Yoga Sutras hoping to find a path to meaningful happiness. I continued to work on the book once I returned to work. As a psychiatric social worker I found myself using techniques related to the Yoga Sutras with patients in the ER that were suicidal, having panic attacks, or wanting to quit drugs/alcohol. These experiences led me to shape the book toward helping people who are struggling with addiction, depression, and anxiety. But the book is really for anyone who wants to make a project of increasing their health and happiness through Eastern spirituality. Check out Beyourspirit.com for excerpts and overviews of the book’s content. 1982 James Todd - I attended Orme in late 70’s and one of my fondest memories of my Orme experience was working live stock with Bruce and his dogs Salt and Pepper. The dogs were able to ride in the cab of Bruce’s truck and we had to ride in the back. Bruce didn’t hesitate to remind us his dogs were way more important to him than we were. Only fond memories Wim Uding - My wife Jeanne and I are slowly but surely working towards my retirement in about 5 months (she is a bit younger though and might just want to work for another 20 years). Of course we have our way of letting our hair down (is that the phrase?) and join in 60ties parties or similar festivities like (look at my FB page) in our home town of Apeldoorn in The Netherlands. Hopefully we will be able to meet up with yet another member of the ORME society - Pat Dougherty seems to be in the country shortly, so we will obviously try to meet and greet in Maastricht or somewhere else. Anyone want to meet while visiting Europe??? Just give us a ring at +316 42724062. Work is necessary for the money but not really important, so I give no comment on that. We have our yearly tennis tournament at our club (we are the central part of the organisation). Meeting up with Max (mad max from the Formula1). I play my weekly game of billiards (no not pool or snooker). We enjoy working in our town garden of 500 square m. And o fcourse producing as much foodstuff to get us through the year. And actually enjoy life as a blessing. Looking after Jeanne’s parents (over eighty) and loving the moments with my brothers and sisters (seven of them and all still living like crazy - the eldest sister in law being 86 this year). Our combined four sons have left the nest, so we have plenty of time for ourselves, because for now we have no grandkids to look after. Will be joining you all at in 2019 for the Half Century ceremony. Love, peace and greetings from Jeanne and Wim 1985 Phil Hof married Allison Juett Jen Michaels married Kort Steinmann from Orme class of 1989 on April 1, 2016 on the beach at North Captiva Island Club.
