On Sunday evening, February 24, the 51st Dorothy Swain Lewis Fine Arts Festival officially kicked off with the annual Gallery Opening. Snowy weather did not stop many guests from attending.
While the Gallery showcased the work of numerous artists including Chris Masiello, Ruth & John Waddell, and Kate ’72 & Jim ’73 Carroll, the evening was dedicated to honoring and remembering Lynlie Orme Jessup Hermann and her wonderful creations, many of which celebrate The Orme School and the beauty of our surrounding landscape.
As an extra nod to our much beloved Lynlie, her famous and delicious Bread Beasties were part of the refreshments served. Many past Orme campers and counselors will fondly remember that recipe and creating their own Beastie creatures during Summer Camp.
The Gallery will be open the entire Fine Arts Festival week (February 25 – March 2). It will also be open on Saturday, March 9 so visitors attending the Chapel Bell Tower Dedication ceremony will be able to view and enjoy the art installed there.
Our special thanks to the volunteers who helped faculty Skyler Dunfey and Ilcen Reyes, and the Orme Art Club set up this year’s Festival Gallery – Pam & Dino Cerchie, Kate Carroll and Kirk Pischel.
