Busy final week for graduating seniors

The last week of school before Commencement has been a whirlwind of activities and adventures for our Class of 2015.

Senior Ride 2015 - 1 Monday, May 18 – The class went on a trail ride, and had a special picnic lunch (out on the range). A few students traveled one way in an old-fashioned wagon pulled by draft horses driven by Trustee John Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy also gave a demonstration of his mini, fuel-efficient camping stove invention. It is the hope that the Senior Ride will be a training ground for future Vaqueros and Champagne & Sagebrush alumni rides.

Monday evening, seniors gathered at the Head of School’s home for a BBQ, and discussed how they can stay in touch with the School as alumni. At dinner, 100% of the Senior Class gave a small donation to the School’s Annual Fund.

Tuesday, May 19 – The group headed to Phoenix for some Castles & Coasters fun, followed by a visit to the Asian Market for dinner. Wednesday, May 20 – The action continued with a rafting trip along the Verde River.

Wednesday evening, after a family-style formal dinner in Founders Hall, our annual Baccalaureate Service was held in the Morton Vrang Orme Memorial Chapel, during which seniors were ‘pinned’ with a sterling Quarter Circle Vbar pin (the School’s seal & logo), and 8th grade students received their diplomas. Faculty member Emerson “Casey” Jones was chosen by the Senior Class to give the evening’s address.

Thursday, May 21 – Our annual and traditional Ladies’ Tea was held at the home of Mrs. Sanborn, as senior girls and other women of the campus community donned their best garden hats and gloves for a special and ‘refined’ afternoon tea. This tradition was started many years ago by Mimi Orme. And, not to leave our senior boys out…a Gentlemen’s Grill was held in Boys Camp, hosted by Head of School Bruce Sanborn.

Friday, May 22 – Will be a full day, with graduation rehearsal in the morning, and Academic Awards dress dinner and ceremony in the evening. Along with Academic Excellence Awards in all classes, Outstanding Senior Awards will be presented.

Saturday, May 23 – The much anticipated and eagerly awaited Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2015 will take place at 10 a.m., with special guest speaker Dr. Stefan Sommer of Northern Arizona University. In just one day’s time, our seniors will become the newest alumni of The Orme School.
