My mom went to school in the 80’s here. I got the chance to come to a Reunion Round-Up when I was younger and I’ve always wanted to come back for camp. Last year I got the chance to attend my first summer at Orme! What was your favorite part or activity at Camp last year? Making friends was definitely my favorite part. I have friends from around the world now! What are you most looking forward to at Camp this year? Seeing my old friends again, making new friends, and learning how to surf! 44 45 CHARACTER Faces of Orme Kelly is a 7th grade art student from Denver who loves making friends and talking about music. Kelly came to Orme Summer Camp in 2015 for the first time and eagerly awaits returning this year to go on her first Caravan during Adventure Camp. This year, Kelly and her fellow campers will be traveling across the Southwest from Orme to the sunny shores of Crystal Beach, California where they will be researching Marine Biology, learning how to surf from Orme Camp alumni Gary Stellern, and even learning to play Beach Volleyball with Orme Alumnus Wade Gray Davis! KELLY MILLIKAN ALEXIS ‘90 & ANNIKA BAKER Alexis is a 1990 Orme graduate. She began her Orme journey in the late 80’s as an Orme Summer Camper. Today, she and her husband live in Valencia, California with their children Finn-Christian (15), John-Paul (13) and Annika (10). After attending Orme Reunion 2015 last summer their children fell in love with Orme. Annika had the chance to ride a horse during Reunion and begged her parents to send her to camp that summer! She attended Orme Horsemanship Camp in 2015 and is looking forward to returning this year with her brother John-Paul. Today Alexis continues to be involved in volunteering her time as the Class Rep for the Orme Class of 1990. Orme is such a special place. Your family has been involved for many years now. Tell us more about your Orme experience: Alexis - I loved attending Orme back in the late 80’s for both summer camp and school. I embraced the ranch lifestyle and extra-curricular activities, like Horsemanship. I made life-long friends from all over the globe. Orme taught me the value of education and self- reliance. My favorite memory of Orme is horseback riding every day after school. Annika, this was your first year experiencing Orme Summer Camp. What was your favorite part? Annika - The horses were of course the best part! I also loved archery and the other activities we got to do when we were not riding. I can’t wait to come back and make new friends and also continue to work on my horsemanship skills. What do you think an Orme Summer Camp experience can offer families? Alexis and Annika - Orme offers children a unique experience on a working ranch with horses and livestock. Our children get to take a step back in time...it’s the like old Wild West. Orme teaches children the value of hard work, a deeper appreciation for diversity, and fosters a love for nature and animals. “Making friends was definitely my favorite part.
