T hroughout the history of Orme, Summer Camp has always held a special place in the hearts and memories of thousands of campers. Each summer, young people from near and far come to Orme’s campus for experiences that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. The 2015 camp season was no exception! Campers from as close as Prescott, as far away as France, and everywhere in between came to our 300 acre campus to take part in Orme Summer Camp. Traditional Camp kicked off the season with a bang! Campers arrived on Sunday, June 21 and were greeted by a gooey obstacle course challenge! Throughout the next two weeks, they enjoyed archery, swimming, horseback riding, camp fires and games. Almost every day also included an off campus day adventure. Campers visited Sedona where they mountain biked through the scenic red rocks, the Apache Mountains where they searched for the Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine, and Fossil Creek where they jumped off waterfalls into the cool, spring fed waters. Our inaugural Adventure Camp also kicked off in 2015. Campers took part in rock climbing on “Big Mesa,” learned survival skills camping out in the nearby Ash Creek ruins, and explored the Colorado River and North Rim of the Grand Canyon during their mini-Caravan adventure. While Adventure campers explored Arizona, campers from as far away as Washington State enjoyed Orme’s state of the art equestrian facility during Horsemanship Camp. Riders of all abilities had the opportunity to ride daily during this great camp. The more advanced riders took part in a clinic led by local barrel racer, Jordan Bassett, and competed in the Olsen’s Saddle Series Barrel Race. Newer riders had the opportunity to enjoy time in the saddle learning the basics of riding and taking trail rides among the Prescott National Forest. This year, Orme Camp begins on July 10. Campers can choose any or all of the four week sessions being offered. Traditional Camp will run July 10-16 and July 17-23, Horsemanship Camp will run July 24-30 and July 31–August 6, and Caravan Adventure Camp will take place July 24-30. This year those in Caravan Adventure Camp will be traveling to Crystal Cove on the coast of California where they will study Marine Biology, learn to surf and even play Beach Volleyball!
