Local students also play just as big of a role on our culture and community. This year, Orme welcomed 20 Arizona students to our student body. Some came from as close as Orme Ranch, while others came from the far corners of Arizona, such as Bullhead City. There were Arizona students in all five grades (8-12) this year at Orme. Being raised in Arizona allows local students to bring their unique community ties to Orme. Given their closer geographic proximity to Orme, their families are often fixtures at Orme sporting events both on and off campus, supporting all of our Warriors as they take to the fields and courts. Local families also play an integral role in coordinating volunteer opportunities, trips and activities for the broader Orme community. In April, the Clarkin Family organized a rock climbing trip to “The Promised Land” in nearby Chino Valley where students and faculty spent the night among amazing climbing walls in the high desert. The opportunity to have an Orme education has profound effects on local students as well. Coming from small Arizona towns such as Cottonwood or Prescott, a student typically finds themselves excelling among Orme’s supportive, small classrooms with fellow students from around the world. Thanks to this carefully planned, global community, local students are able to experience the many diverse world views on current events, education and politics on a global perspective without ever leaving their home state. TRADITION Supporting our Arizona Students The Arizona resident students at Orme also bring an economic diversity to the school, honoring the belief in a quality education for all that the Orme Family founded the school on in 1929. This year, 15 Arizona resident students received partial scholarships through The Orme Primavera Schools Foundation (OPSF) to attend Orme. OPSF is a tax credit fund established in the State of Arizona that allows Arizona state tax payers to divert a portion of their state tax liabilities to fund scholarships for Arizona resident students to attend The Orme School or The Primavera School (an independent elementary school in Prescott). Not only do Arizona residents receive a dollar for dollar credit on their tax liability, they are also able to claim a charitable donation on their federal taxes as well! The scholarships raised through OPSF have played a critical role in making an Orme education an affordable option for local students to attend this global community. This fund has truly offered their children a chance at an education that is changing their lives! During our travels my co-workers and I have the unique privilege of meeting with alumni. We love to hear from the generations who have enjoyed and benefited from Orme either from a school experience or camp experience. We are often asked this question: “My time at Orme had a huge impact on my life, how can I help?” For those alumni living in Arizona, The Orme Primavera Fund is an excellent way to be able to help Orme and our local students, while reducing or eliminating your Arizona Tax Liability. For those living in other parts of the country or world, gifts to the Annual Fund have a huge impact on our ability to be able to deliver the unique programs of Orme to our entire student body. We cannot stress the fact that every gift, no matter the amount, can make a difference! If you are an Arizona resident and would like more information on how you can help contribute to OPSF please call 928-632-1564 or email me at jcalmes@ormeschool.org. If you are not an Arizona resident, you can still support Orme’s Scholarship Fund through your designated gift to the Annual Fund. On behalf of all of our students who benefit from the generosity of donors to OPSF and the Annual Fund, I thank you for giving these students the gift of an Orme education and continuing on the legacy that you enjoyed so many years ago! Jessica Calmes is the Associate Director of Advancement and Admissions.
